Capripoxviruses

These viruses are among the most significant animal poxviruses due to their impact on livestock health and economic consequences. The genus includes three primary species: Lumpy Skin Disease Virus (LSDV), Sheeppox Virus (SPPV), and Goatpox Virus (GTPV). LSDV primarily affects cattle, causing symptoms such as fever, enlarged lymph nodes, and characteristic nodules on the skin. The virus is transmitted mainly through insect vectors. SPPV is specific to sheep and leads to severe skin lesions, respiratory issues, and sometimes death. The virus spreads through direct contact with infected animals or via aerosols. GTPV affects goats, causing similar symptoms to SPPV, including skin lesions and respiratory distress. Transmission occurs through close contact with infected animals or contaminated environments.

Movement restrictions and early detection through surveillance are crucial to minimizing the spread and impact of these viruses on livestock. Effective control and prevention—including vaccination, vector management, and biosecurity measures—are essential to prevent outbreaks.

Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome Virus (PRRSV)

Infections with PRRSV in swine are highly prevalent and economically very important for the swine industry. PRRSV is an RNA virus that belongs to the order Nidovirales, family Arteriviridae. PRRS virus infection can cause respiratory disease in piglets and reproductive failure in pregnant sows.

Monitoring vaccination success requires differentiating vaccine from wild-type PPRSV strains. Sequencing can be costly, time-consuming and incompatible with weak positive samples. The virotype PRRSV EU Vax RT-PCR Kit offers a fast, practical alternative to confirm PRRSV-1 vaccine status, saving time in the lab while delivering reliable, actionable results for confident herd health decisions.

Influenza A Virus

The Influenza A Virus is an enveloped, single-stranded RNA virus and belongs to the family Orthomyxoviridae, genus Alphainfluenzavirus. Influenza A viruses occur in high genetic diversity and a wide range of virulence. They are grouped into low and highly pathogenic strains. Waterfowl are the natural reservoir of Low Pathogenic Avian Influenza Viruses (LPAIV). Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza Viruses (HPAIV) belong to subtypes H5 or H7 and may cause fowl plague in domestic poultry with high economic losses. The subtypes H1N1, H1N2, and H3N2 of Influenza A Virus can also cause infections of the respiratory tract in swine as can the subtype H3N8 in equids.

Using the cattletype BHV1 gE Ab for DIVA (Differentiating Infected from Vaccinated Animals) approach

The cattletype BHV1 gE Ab can be used to differentiate field virus infected cattle from cattle vaccinated with gE-deleted marker vaccine. Such vaccines are based on deletion mutants (deletion of gE gene) and are widely used around the world for BHV1 control. Once infected, animals will produce antibodies against gE and will yield a positive result when tested using the cattletype BHV1 gE Ab. Vaccinated but uninfected animals will produce antibodies for other glycoproteins, i.e. glycoprotein D, and will yield a negative result when tested using the cattletype BHV1 gE Ab.

The ANAPLASMA-ELISA DOG is an indirect enzyme immunoassay for detecting IgG antibodies to Anaplasma phagocytophilum in serum and plasma samples from dogs.

Anaplasma phagocytophilum is the causative agent of anaplasmosis - a common tick-borne disease in dogs. In general antibodies to Anaplasma phagocytophilum are detectable 10 to 14 days post infection (2 to 5 days after the morulae are detectable in dyed blodd smears).
A remarkable rise of antibodies within seven through 21 days is characteristic of an active Anaplasma infection. But a high-level antibody titre persisting for several months does not point out an acute anaplasmosis. If there is suspicion of anaplasmosis then besides the clinical symptoms, the dynamic titre should be monitored.

Salmonella/Salmonellosis

Salmonellosis is a zoonotic disease caused by bacteria of the genus Salmonella. Humans can be infected by consumption of salmonella contaminated raw or undercooked pork. Avian Influenza

Avian Influenza is caused by various strains of Influenza A Virus. It infects wild fowl as well as domestic poultry. Influenza A virus strains are classified as low pathogenic or highly pathogenic. Bovine Mastitis is the single most common and most costly disease of dairy cattle worldwide. Mastitis reduces milk production and raw milk quality, making it unsuitable for human consumption. Treating a cow herd for mastitis is costly, leads to milk withholding after treatment and may force producers to cull their dairy cows. Reliably identifying pathogens that Mastitis is the cornerstone of targeted therapy strategies. Schmallenberg Virus (SBV)

SBV is an enveloped, single-stranded RNA virus and belongs to the Bunyaviridae family, genus Orthobunyavirus. Transmission of Orthobunyavirus occurs mainly by biting midges (Culicoides spp.) and/or mosquitoes. Direct transmission from animal to animal is unlikely, but a vertical transmission from dam to fetus via the intrauterine route does occur. In adult cattle clinical symptoms are a short period with reduction in milk yield, diarrhea, and high fever. In sheep, weakness and diarrhea are the main clinical signs seen. Depending on the time of gestation, infection with SBV causes embryonic loss, mummification, abortion, stillbirth, or congenital malformations with arthrogryposis-hydranencephaly syndrome (AHS).

The SVANOVIR F.hepatica-Ab is an Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) for the detection of F. hepatica specific antibodies in bovine serum/plasma, meat juice and milk samples (individual and bulk tank milk). The test is based on the E/S protein and detects antibodies to Fasciola hepatica (F. hepatica) in dairy and beef cattle. The SVANOVIR F.hepatica-Ab has been validated using naturally infected populations and is the first test enabling the identification of herds and individuals that exceed an acceptable level of infection.

The LEISHMANIA IgG ELISA DOG is an Enzyme Immunoassay for detecting IgG antibodies to Leishmania infantum in serum and plasma samples from dogs.

Leishmania infantum is the causative agent of leishmaniasis - an important zoonoses which occurs particulary in the tropics and sub-tropics of Africa, Asia, the Americas, and southern Europe. Dogs are the main reservoir host and the disease is potentially fatal in dogs and people. Spread by the bite of infected sandflies, dogs of all ages can be infected and the incubation period can range from months to years.

The disease can proceed symptomatically (accompanied by polyclonal B-cell-activation; generation of specific antibodies and cellular immunosuppression), subclinically (accompanied by specific humoral immune response) or latently (lack of respectively very weak humoral and protective cellular immune response). Clinical symptoms are (ordered by decreasing frequency) lymphadenopathy, skin reactions, cachexia, hyperthermia, conjunctivitis, splenomegalia and abnormal claws. Often slight to moderately normochromic anemia, moderate leukopenia, hypergammaglobulinemia and hypoalbuminemia are observed.
