The virotype SBV 2.0 RT-PCR Kit (FLI-C 115) from INDICAL enables rapid, safe, and sensitive detection of RNA from Schmallenberg Virus (SBV) in samples from ruminants.
- Faster time to result
Ultra-fast protocol with a total RT-qPCR run time of ~1 hour*
- Internal control for greater confidence
Endogenous Internal Control (β-actin) - Ease of use
Ready-to-use reagents including a single reaction mix, saving precious lab time - Multiple validated sample types
Tissue samples, serum, blood (individual or pooled), semen and (swabs of) meconium from ruminants - Validated pooling options
The high sensitivity of the virotype SBV 2.0 RT-PCR Kit permits blood and serum samples to be tested in pools consisting of up to 5 individual samples.**
- New virotype 2.0 family protocol for more efficient testing
Sharing one cycling protocol, the virotype SBV 2.0 RT-PCR Kit can be performed in one run with other virotype 2.0 RT-PCR Kits from INDICAL.
*Depending on PCR-Cycler. See Handbook for detailed information. **Pool recommendations and regulations may vary between countries.
Schmallenberg Virus (SBV)
SBV is an enveloped, single-stranded RNA virus and belongs to the Bunyaviridae family, genus Orthobunyavirus. Transmission of Orthobunyavirus occurs mainly by biting midges (Culicoides spp.) and/or mosquitoes. Direct transmission from animal to animal is unlikely, but a vertical transmission from dam to fetus via the intrauterine route does occur. In adult cattle clinical symptoms are a short period with reduction in milk yield, diarrhea, and high fever. In sheep, weakness and diarrhea are the main clinical signs seen. Depending on the time of gestation, infection with SBV causes embryonic loss, mummification, abortion, stillbirth, or congenital malformations with arthrogryposis-hydranencephaly syndrome (AHS).
