The cattletype BHV1 gE Ab is a sensitive assay for the detection of antibodies to glycoprotein E (gE) of Bovine Herpesvirus 1 (BHV1) in serum, plasma and milk samples ftom cattle. It can be used with individual samples or with pooled milk samples after suitable sample preparation.

  • Sensitive and specific BHV1 gE-blocking ELISA
  • Allows for DIVA strategy when paired with gE-deleted vaccines
  • Suitable for serum, plasma and milk samples
  • User-friendly protocol, ready-to-use and color-coded reagents, automatable
  • Easy to integrate into existing workflows

Using the cattletype BHV1 gE Ab for DIVA (Differentiating Infected from Vaccinated Animals) approach

The cattletype BHV1 gE Ab can be used to differentiate field virus infected cattle from cattle vaccinated with gE-deleted marker vaccine. Such vaccines are based on deletion mutants (deletion of gE gene) and are widely used around the world for BHV1 control. Once infected, animals will produce antibodies against gE and will yield a positive result when tested using the cattletype BHV1 gE Ab. Vaccinated but uninfected animals will produce antibodies for other glycoproteins, i.e. glycoprotein D, and will yield a negative result when tested using the cattletype BHV1 gE Ab.

Bovine Herpesvirus (BHV1)

BHV1 is the causative agent of Infectious Bovine Rhinotracheitis (IBR), a respiratory disease that causes tracheitis, rhinitis, and fever.
